The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Egypt said some 88,000 people had crossed the Sudanese border into Egypt since fighting broke out in Sudan a month ago.

The committee further told the BBC that around 85,000 of them were Sudanese, and according to the latest figures received from the Egyptian foreign ministry, more than 3,000 had contacted the committee in recent days.

The committee also said it had requested $130 million in financial aid to deal with the emergency but received only 10% of that from international donors.
